Core Project Management | Deltaport Terminal Road and Rail Improvement Project

Deltaport Terminal Road and Rail Improvement Project

Justin Pedley acted as Project Director for Port Metro Vancouver (PMV) who delivered the project on behalf of three funding partners (PMV, Transport Canada, and the Province).

Deltaport, at Roberts Bank in Delta, BC, is the largest container terminal in Canada, with a current capacity of 1.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers) per year.

Road and rail constraints limited the capacity of Deltaport to meet the forecasted demand for additional container movements on the west coast of Canada.  To increase container capacity:

  • An overpass on the existing Roberts Bank causeway was built to separate road and rail traffic
  • A $6m Vehicle Access Control System was built to improve security, safety and reliability at the terminal

Justin was responsible for the design, permitting and construction of the project including all internal and external stakeholder agreements and community engagement on the $40M+ project.
