Justin Pedley acted as Project Director for British Columbia Rapid Transit Companies (SkyTrain) $50M Operations and Maintenance Centre renovation project, which allowed SkyTrain to expand both the yard and maintenance capacity of the existing facility by approximately 75%.
The Centre is equipped with various maintenance systems such as compressed air, a vacuum system, a grease system, a wheel press, and overhead cranes. The project also included the construction of a two-storey materials and equipment stores centre, additional running repair maintenance bays and the infilling of an existing interior open area to an additional electric shop. A large component of the project was the construction and tie-in of a new rail and rail spur line.
A significant challenge during this project was maintaining a continuous 24/7 SkyTrain operation in the existing maintenance run-through facility and storage yard during the demolition of existing structures, and construction of the additions.
